Dig In 2022

November 17-19, 2022
“We all need to eat.
If changes are needed to make our food system more secure,
We all need to meet”
The Summit was a two-day forum for food systems stakeholders to discuss threats to the regional food supply and how they manifest themselves in Atlantic Canada, and where transformation is needed. The themes of food security and food sovereignty were explored from the perspectives of producers, processors, distributors, consumers and policy makers.
The Summit was a unique opportunity to network and exchange ideas with key food systems stakeholders across Atlantic Canada, to catalyze ongoing and new collaboration opportunities across the region.
Keynote speakers brought international and national hands-on experience rebuilding regional food systems. Breakout sessions highlighted best case successes across all aspects of our food systems. A unique feature of the Summit was ‘Topic Tables,’ providing ample opportunity to regionally network with others on key topics of interest.
The Summit was held in Debert, Nova Scotia on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. Selected speakers and panelists from the First Nations and all four Atlantic provinces discussed bottlenecks in our current food systems, offered their insights, focused on current success stories in our region and showed the path forward towards greater food sovereignty.
Outcomes provide a pathway forward at the regional level, direction at the Provincial level and opportunities for local action at the community level. A detailed report may be produced from these critical conversations that details the nature of the issues discussed and areas where collective action will optimize the region’s resilience and ability to adapt to changing times.
